Our Programs

M.S. Industrial Engineering (MSIE)

  • The program requires 30-33 credit hours and most students can graduate within 1.5-2 years.
  • In addition to courses from our department, students may be able to select limited courses from other engineering and computer science departments at WSU.
  • 鈥淐redit for Prior Learning鈥 is only awarded for specific certifications listed on the above program requirement page.
  • External certifications are offered through specific agencies listed on that page. Students must satisfy the requirements and pay directly to chosen agency for certification exam. The exam fees for the certifications are not included in your tuition and fees at WSU.

Master of Engineering Management (MEM)

  • The program requires 33 credit hours and most students can graduate within 1.5-2 years.
  • Extremely flexible program with options to take courses from our department, other engineering and computer science departments, and business school at WSU.
  • 鈥淐redit for Prior Learning鈥 is only awarded for specific certifications listed on the above program requirement page.
  • External certifications are not required to graduate from this program.

Ph.D in Industrial Engineering

  • The program requires 72 credit hours (including a maximum of 24 credit hours transferred from an MS degree) and most students can graduate within 3-4 years.
  • Flexible curriculum and faculty expertise in multitude of industrial and manufacturing engineering areas.

Certificates

  • Depending on the courses taken for your degree, you could also claim one or more certificates such as Additive Manufacturing, Foundations of Six Sigma and Quality Improvement, Lean Systems, Supply Chain Analytics, Supply Chain Management, and Systems Engineering and Management without any additional course requirement.

Note: Few courses listed on the above page are not available to graduate students (IME 524, IME 554, IME 556, IME 565, IME 590, IME 625, IME 676, and IME 690).

Depending on your major and concentration, you may be allowed to take limited number of courses from other departments too (subject to program policy and written approval from ISME graduate program coordinator and/or department chair).

* Most international students select off-campus housing because of cost. International students may also want to connect with one of WSU's many international student organizations.

IME 255 Prerequisite
  • You can satisfy the IME 255 pre-requisite by one of the following:
    • Pay $75 fee, take an exit test, and pass with at least 80% points (topic details can be seen at IME 255 Engineering Economy).
      • Scheduled on last Thursday/Friday before start of Fall and Spring semester or during the first two weeks of those semesters. Please check with me or ISME administrative assistant at least 2 weeks before the start of Fall or Spring semester to schedule quizouts. The fee must be paid at least one week prior to the exam date (exact cash - contact me or ISME administrative assistant for the payment and receipt).
      • Recommended textbook as study material: "Engineering Economy" by Leland Blank and Anthony Tarquin.
      • Recommended video material:  
    • Take IME 255 course at WSU and pass with a 鈥淏鈥 or better grade (3.000 or better GPA on a scale of 4.000).
    • Take IME 255 equivalent course at one of the other institutions in the US that have already been evaluated by us and pass with a 鈥淏鈥 or better grade (3.000 or better GPA on a scale of 4.000).

Tuition and Fees

Tuition payment

  • Students are required to pay the full semester tuition and fees before end of the second week of classes unless they have set-up a payment plan (requires an additional fee of $130). See payment plan details.
  • Total tuition and fees with 9 credit hours of registration (including health insurance cost) is approximately $11,000 per semester for international students (as of Spring 2025).
Scholarships & Assistance
  • Global Select Scholarships (GSS) for eligible international students
    • Eligible international students are automatically awarded this scholarship and those students receive an email confirming the same.
    • If you were awarded the GSS (as of Fall 2024), you need to provide funding information for remaining ~$25,500 (compared to $30,800 for others). GSS value of ~$5,600 is based on an enrollment of a total of 18 credit hours (9 in Spring and 9 in Fall semester).
  • Graduate assistantships
    • Graduate Teaching Assistant (GTA) and Graduate Research Assistant (GRA) opportunities through our department are limited and competitive.
    • You may want to visit with individual professors after your arrival at WSU and discuss how you can add value to their research project. You may also contact them through email with your resume (and other documents as applicable). See a list of faculty members or view IME Faculty research interests
    • Other units (e.g. library, graduate school, and other administrative offices) may also have limited adminstrative graduate assistant (GA) positions. You are welcome to explore available positions by contacting them on your own (typically in-person once you are here on-campus).

International Applicants

  • Application steps:
    • Follow the link in Step #4 of our application process website, create your account, and complete application form with personal and academic details
    • Submit and pay application fee
    • Go back to your application portal and upload at least your transcripts from all college level degrees e.g. diploma, bachelor's, master's, PhD as applicable. You should upload transcripts for each semester (including repeated courses, if any) as well as consolidated, as applicable.
    • Once you submit your transcripts, our department starts the review process and sends departmental recommendation to WSU Graduate School.
    • WSU Graduate School will review departmental recommendation and other documents, and send our final decision through email. Please add wsugradschool@wichita.edu as trusted sender. If you are using Gmail, it may end up in your "Promotions" folder. 
    • If you already uploaded all required documents (see below) and qualified for an admission, Graduate School will prepare your I-20 and send it to you via email address registered in the application portal.

GSS value of ~$5,800 is based on an enrollment of a total of 18 credit hours (9 in Spring and 9 in Fall semester). Please list WSU and other sponsor (as applicable) to reflect your WSU funding on the CFS form ().
        • If you are awarded GA, GRA, or GTA funding, you need to provide funding information for remaining amount (if any) communicated to you via email through the Graduate School. Please list WSU and other sponsor (as applicable) to reflect your WSU funding on the CFS form.

        • Note: If you are yet to complete your degree (or completed it recently) and do not have your degree certificate, you can be admitted tentatively. Please inform the Graduate School accordingly by sending an email to wsugradschool@wichita.edu.
    • If you have not already submitted all the documents required for your admission (including official English proficiency scores meeting the minimum requirements, financial documents (e.g. bank statements/loan documents), and signed ), please do so as soon as possible. WSU cannot finalize your admission without these documents. Please note that our Graduate School issues I-20 forms as soon as possible. However, it may take 1-3 weeks for final review and issuance of your I-20 after all your documents are uploaded through the admission application portal (not through email) and receipt of final admission confirmation through the Graduate School. You can review the list of missing documents through your portal. Please wait for I-20 forms to be issued since requesting them to be expedited will not help it.

      Flight Information
        • If you have friends/relatives in or near places such as California, Colorado (Denver), Florida (e.g. Orlando and Miami), Illinois (Chicago),  Missouri or Kansas (Kansas City), New York, Texas (e.g. Dallas and Houston,) Washington (Seattle), or Washington-DC, you may be able to find a better/cheaper international flight to those locations and book a domestic flight after a day or two from your arrival date in the US. Similarly, you can explore other airports in your country that may have better options than your current location. You could use a travel agent in your home country and/or use websites such as Google flights, Kayak, and Skyscanner.

    • Once you have arrived at WSU, you must complete international student check-in and TB testing process (details are sent via email 1-2 months before start of the semester). You will then attend one of the advising meetings with ISME Graduate Coordinator to register in your classes and/or ask other questions related to your studies at WSU.
